She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland, a Master of Science in Medical Surgical Nursing/Oncology and a Post Masters certificate in Adult Primary Care from the University of Rochester, a PhD in Public Health and a Post Masters Certificate as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner from the Medical University of South Carolina. She is an ANCC Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner and a member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the National Conference of Gerontological Nurse Practitioners. | | A faculty member of the Medical University of South Carolina since 1980, Dr. Edlund has taught at the undergraduate level and currently teaches in the graduate and doctoral nursing programs. She has received funding from the Division of Nursing, HRSA for Graduate Nursing Program Grants for the education of advanced practice nurses in Gerontological/Complementary Care and the preparation of an Adult Nurse Practitioner in Primary and Palliative Care. A productive writer, she has published numerous articles and book chapters, as well as co-authored a textbook on nursing assessment and diagnosis. She also is on the editorial review boards of the following journals: Advance for Nurses, The On-Line Journal of Issues in Nursing, and the Journal of Gerontological Nursing, where she also serves as the Co-Section Editor of the Geropharmocology feature. She has been honored for excellence in practice in South Carolina receiving both the Palmetto Gold Award and the South Carolina League for Nursing Award. Her clinical and research interests include primary care and mental health issues in the older adult. | Dr. Edlund is active in the local Charleston community, serving on the Mayor’s Council on Aging, the Board of Directors of the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy, and the Low Country Senior Center Accreditation Committee. For her community work, Dr. Edlund was recognized with a Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) Award, given by the YWCA of Charleston South Carolina. |
