Priority and Binding Admission for Early Decision Program

Programs with Priority Admission

The Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing Accelerated BSN Program has a Priority admission for the academically superior student.  Applicants willing to sign a binding commitment to the College of Nursing as their first choice may apply under Priority Admission.  Following acceptance of the college's offer of admission, applicants must withdraw all applications that have been submitted to other nursing programs and file no further college applications.  Applying to the priority admission involves a commitment to the payment of matriculation and tuition fees at MUSC.

Qualifications

To qualify for priority admission, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Have earned a 3.8 GPA in prerequisite coursework and a 3.5 in overall coursework  
  • Have completed three out of the four required science courses.  The required science courses are four semester hours each of the following:  Human Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, and a science elective
  • Submit official SAT or ACT test scores

  SAT score of 1250 (combined math and critical thinking sections)

  ACT score 28

  • Submit a completed application with reference forms, resume, essay, and official transcripts of all post high school education.

Deadline

The application deadline for Priority admission for the Fall semester is November 15. Applicants will be informed in writing of the Admission, Preogression, and Graduation Committee’s decision by December 31.


The application deadline for the Spring semester is August 15. Applicants will be informed in writing of the Admission, Progression, and Graduation Committee’s decision by September 30.

Space Available Basis

Admission through the Priority admission program is on a space available basis. Students who are not accepted will be considered for regular admission at the appropriate time.

Guidelines

If accepted through the Priority admission program, military personnel must provide documentation of the military program, including deadlines, information required, etc. to the College of Nursing Office of Student Services prior to matriculation.

Spotlight

Teresa Kelechi Named New Department Chair

Effective November 1, Teresa Kelechi will assume the role of Department Chair. Employed at MUSC for 22 years, Teresa joined the College of Nursing faculty in 2001. She is a board certified gerontological clinical nurse specialist and a certified wound care nurse. Teresa takes over the reins of Department Chair from Elizabeth Erkel who will retire at the end of the year.
