Quick Instructions:
*Print your poster on a local printer to check for accuracy
*Create an Email to the operator (above)
*Attach your poster
*Specify the height of 42" or 36"
*Make sure you have read and followed the guidelines below:
-Posters are on a first come first serve basis
-Power Point (2007), PDF, or JPEG supported
-Although printing is not guaranteed, a two-three day notice is typically sufficent
-Posters can take from 1 hour to several hours to print dependent on file and page size, graphics, and volume.
The printer costs add up with multiple redos - Reasons for additional attempts:
-Client did not give final product or had careless mistakes (74.6%)
-Client requested print from other operator seeking speed achieving none (1.4%)
-Software issues (15.9%)
-Printer malfunction (7.2%)
-Operator error (1.2%)
One client had a poster reprinted 4 times due to last minute changes. Our new policy is one free print per poster and/or per person for client error.
How much does a poster cost? Other departments charge $50-$100 per print which is consistent with discount commercial prices. Reprints will incur fees
incrementally.
To help eliminate waste and keep this service free please follow the steps below:
-Give you final product - if your not sure, do not send it – if you are afraid of time, contact the operator
-The size of the page will be expanded to fit the poster size - make sure this will not distort your poster
-If you are using a Mac, make a PDF or check the file on a PC, as a PC will be used to print
-Print your document on a local printer to check for mistakes
-Use Power Point 2007 (if using Power Point)
Time: The print job has four variables: Operator Availability, Data Processing, Printing, and Capacity
-The operator works 8:30-5 pm with several other responsibilities during the day. Give at least two days notice to book a job.
-Data processing can take as little as 10 minutes and as long as 8 hours dependent on file size and graphics. Size is based on the file size plus the
increase to print size. For example, if a file is 1 MB, it will likely be 16-20MB when processing due to formatting for the exact poster size.
Processing is usually 1-2 minutes per MB. Thus the job processing for a 1MB file expanded to poster size should take about 30 minutes on average to
process. Dificult or high grade graphic files add to this time and is more likely to cause format errors. Try to keep the file smaller than 5MB.
-Printing depends on the height, length, and amount of ink used, but typically take about 30-40 minutes.
-Capacity: Typically, 8 jobs can be processed in a day. This assumes there are no format problems, the printer does not malfunction, ink is full,
and paper does not need to be changed. This is why two days (or more during events) is recommended.
