The
MEDUCARE Pediatric Team is the MUSC Children’s Hospital
medical transport service. Their high-skilled and dedicated pediatric/neonatal
team that consists of a Registered Nurse and Registered Respiratory
Therapist is available around the clock to transport patients
who need immediate medical intervention.The
team can manage any interfacility transfer up to age eighteen.
Depending
on the needs of the patient, MEDUCARE’s Pediatric Team arranges
emergency transportation using its helicopter, fixed wing airplane,
or ground ambulance. Advanced procedures include rapid sequence
intubation, central line placement, needle decompression, chest
tube insertion, and intraosseous line placement. Specialized medical
equipment required to maintain life support functions for neonates
and children is available on each transport.
The
Pediatric Team’s mission could not be accomplished without
the helicopter assistance from Omniflight helicopters and their
medical team (MEDUCARE Air), as well as ambulance/medical coverage
by the MUSC MEDUCARE Ground Team. Also, our dispatch center, which
provides flight/ground following as well as provides vital communications
during patient transfers.
