Program Requirements
MUSC has a common first year curriculum and at the end of the first year students select the graduate program for the completion of their Ph.D. Applications are made through the College of Graduate Studies program in Biomedical Sciences. There is no online application fee for applicants who are applying to the Ph.D. program in Biomedical Sciences and are either US citizens or US permanent residents. All international applicants must pay the $55 online application fee.
All applications must be submitted online (http://www.musc.edu/es/apply). If you are unable to apply online you must petition the Office of the Dean for special accommodation explaining why you are unable to apply online.

Reduced tuition for Ph.D. students is approximately $1,200 per year. Effective Fall 2004 the stipend support will be $21,000-$27,500 per year.

Ph.D. applicants should meet the following requirements/guidelines:
* Possess Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
* Have a GRE V+Q score of 1100.
* Submit transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
* Submit reference letters from 3 individuals. (When possible they should address your aptitude for research.)
* Provide evidence of research experience. Exception: Applicants interested in Biostatistics (math majors)

International Ph.D. applicants:
The TOEFL is required. If an international applicant has graduated or will graduate from an institution that uses English as the language of instruction, the TOEFL is not required.

Admissions Process for the Ph.D. program applicant:
Once an application is complete it is sent for evaluation to the Graduate Admissions Committee. Selected applicants are invited to participate in a group recruitment/interview weekend. This weekend is composed of interviews with members of the Graduate Admissions Committee, campus tours, introduction to the graduate training programs and discussion with faculty. After the interview weekend the Graduate Admissions Committee meets to decide whether or not to offer acceptance to the applicants.
