Research
My research involves chemical isolation and structural determination of a toxic compound(s) produced by the Gulf of Mexico red tide-causing dinoflagellate, Alexandrium monilatum. Isolation involved various HPLC and LC-MS methods and structural determination through NMR and various MS techniques. To date, structural characterization is complete, but no stereochemistry has been reported. Future directions include bacterial influences on algal toxin production and algal growth dynamics.
