Research:

Mechanisms of invertebrate immunity, particularly in penaeid shrimp. Areas of research interest include:
1. Functional genomics approaches to understanding stress responses and disease
2. Identification of genes involved in the shrimp immune response to viral pathogens
3. Role of antimicrobial peptides in innate immune defense responses.
4. Functional characterization of immune molecules in the purple sea urchin Strongylocentrotus purpuratus (in collaboration with L. C. Smith at Geo. Wash. Univ.)
