| Research:
Molecular biology/biochemistry of marine animals with particular reference to coral health/disease and to forensics issues. Currently I am studying molecular indicators of coral disease in relationship to environmental and anthropogenic stressors utilizing a genomic/proteomic approach. Past areas of research have included: (1) the measurement of environmental contaminants in marine mammal and sea turtle tissues, with special emphasis on the relationship of environmental contaminants to disease and death in these species; (2) the study of the metabolism of contaminant metals with special emphasis on the interaction of Se and CH3Hg; (3) the use of species identification techniques (including PAG-IEF, marine fatty acid analysis, DNA sequencing and RFLP) for the forensic identification of unknowns in law enforcement cases related to managed or protected marine species; (4) marine biotoxin assessment as related to human consumers of marine fishery products; particular emphasis on program management at the national level. |
