| Research: Photosynthetic pigments as chemotaxonomic markers; carbon, nitrogen, iron, and sulfur biogeochemical cycling. Our research laboratory is focused on phytoplankton physiology and ecology, especially with respect to biogeochemical cycling. We are presently investigating the role of iron and carbon dioxide levels in affecting phytoplankton physiology and community structure in various oceanic environments including the Arctic and Antarctic regions. We are also studying the microbial dimethylsulfide cycle from the molecular level, as it relates to cellular function, to the global scale as it affects climate change processes. |
