The 50th anniversary of the hospital residency program
just got a little sweeter. The SCCP-MUSC Medical Center
program, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year
and recognized as one of the oldest and largest programs
in the country, has received national acclaim from the
American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP).
The ASHP Research and Education Foundation, ASHP’s philanthropical
arm, announced that the PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency
Program is the winner of the Pharmacy Residency Excellence
Award (Program Award). The internal committee consisted
of:
- Paul Bush, director, pharmacy services, MUSC; director,
graduate pharmacy education
- Mike DeCoske, resident, MUSC
- Chris Fortier, manager, pharmacy support services,
MUSC
- Dominic Ragucci, clinical coordinator, Children’s
Hospital; residency program director for the PGYI
program
- Kelly Ragucci, associate professor, clinical pharmacy
and outcomes sciences, SCCP; associate director, graduate
pharmacy education
The award will be presented at the ASHP Midyear Meeting
in Orlando in December. As stated on the foundation’s
Web site, “The purpose of the Program Award is to recognize
a pharmacy residency program that has a track record
of excellence in the training of pharmacy residents
and consistently provides an exceptionally positive
and rewarding experience to their residents. By recognizing
these programs and their accomplishments, they can serve
as role models in sustained excellence, achievement,
and innovation in residency training.”
