Creating Collaborative Care

The Creating Collaborative Care (C3) program, the university’s major educational initiative, is continuing to develop interprofessional education on campus. Through C3 work, MUSC students are acquiring basic team skills through their academic programs and student organizations. These team skills serve as the foundation for students’ future work in interprofessional collaborations. Our 4th annual Interprofessional Day for first and second year students will be January 23, 2009! During the day, students will learn about the importance of interprofessional collaboration to improve health care and more about each other’s professions.

In collaboration with the Junior Doctors of Health Program and South Carolina AHEC, the Interprofessional Service Learning Project (ISLP) is expanding from Charleston to sites across the state this year. During ISLP, students on clinical rotations work together in an interprofessional team to teach elementary school children about nutrition and exercise using the Junior Doctors of Health curriculum. Through this project, MUSC students learn more about each others’ professions and how to work effectively in a team, and they educate the local community about youth obesity prevention and encourage children to pursue careers in health care.
