M. Bret Anderson, M.D.
Dr. Anderson graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Louisiana Tech University. Subsequently Dr. Anderson completed post graduate work in the biological sciences and also had the opportunity to work alongside retired neurosurgeon Dr. William H. M. Finney, volunteering in the Shepherd’s Clinic medical mission in the inner city of Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Anderson then returned to Louisiana where he studied at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine, receiving a Doctorate of Medicine. He remained in New Orleans for two years of postgraduate General Surgery residency training at LSU/Charity Hospital.
Fulfilling a commitment to the United States Air Force, Dr. Anderson then entered military service. As an active duty USAF Flight surgeon for over five years, “Doc” Anderson served from Texas to Alaska and from Germany to Viet Nam. Immediately following the events of September 11, 2001, Dr. Anderson deployed to Saudi Arabia; he subsequently served in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
Dr. Anderson returned to residency in 2005. Upon completion of 4 years of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology training at the Medical University of South Carolina, he became the first MUSC graduate of the American Board of Radiology’s Vascular & Interventional DIRECT Pathway. He then joined the staff of the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC, helping to grow and expand the Interventional Radiology section.
In August 2011, Dr. Anderson re-joined his colleagues at the Medical University of South Carolina, excited to become part of the MUSC Vascular & Interventional Radiology division's long tradition of excellence in patient care, education, research and innovation.
In addition to interventional radiology, Dr. Anderson’s interests include medical education, medical missions, and healthcare economics.
Dr. Anderson is certified by the American Board of Radiology and is eligible for the Certificate of Added Qualification in Vascular & Interventional Radiology.
When not working, Dr. Anderson most enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, exploring all that Charleston and the Lowcountry have to offer.
