Microsoft campus agreement

MUSC has a Core CAL Site License for MUSC faculty, staff and students. This site license includes all existing and future Windows, Exchange, SharePoint and Systems Management Servers (SMS) and the CALs (Core Client Access Licenses or user licenses) to use these products. MUSC no longer has to purchase a separate server license for any of the above server products.

In addition to the Core CAL Site License MUSC also purchased Enterprise CALs for all faculty, staff and students. Enterprise CALs allow MUSC to run an advanced feature set of Exchange and SharePoint products and to run an advanced feature set of all Microsoft servers. Please see the links below for what servers and features are included in Core and Enterprise CALs.

Microsoft Core Client Access License Suite

The Microsoft Core CAL Suite encompasses four fundamental Microsoft server products:

Microsoft Enterprise CAL Suite

The Microsoft Enterprise Client Access License (CAL) Suite brings together 11 of the latest Microsoft products:

Standard CAL Enterprise CAL

There has been no change in the MIcrosoft Desktop SKU license.
The Desktop SKU provides the MS OS (XP and Vista) and Office 2003/7/8 Professional Suite
and all future updates to these products for MUSC faculty and staff.

Office for Mac and Windows

Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 for Windows, and Microsoft 2008 for Mac
are available via the MUSC Software Download site at: http://www.musc.edu/infoservices/software/

All Other Microsoft Products
All other Microsoft software is covered by the State of South Carolina Select 6 Agreement: Enrollment Number 9557260, Agreement Number 01S6B524. Dell is our Select 6 Agreement vendor. You can use your department's P-card to purchase software from the Dell P-card Purchases site.

Work at home registration agreement

Faculty and Staff users have the right to run one copy of Microsoft Office on a home PC that they own or lease for work-related purposes only. You can go to CompuSult and purchase Microsoft Office software for $19.95. You can only purchase one CD and must come in with your MUSC Identification Badge. You will have to sign a Work at Home Registration Agreement that outlines the requirements you are expected to follow. Students are not authorized to purchase software under this agreement but are invited to consider The Ultimate Steal Promotion (below) to obtain Microsoft Office Desktop products.

The Ultimate Steal promotion

(This offer is available from July 1, 2008 – December 31, 2010)

Eligibility:
This offer is good only for eligible students who attend an educational institution geographically located in the United States. This offer is non-transferable. One of each product may be purchased per eligible student (but not required).

The following conditions serve to define student eligibility for the Promotion:

  1. .edu: Individual must possess a valid e-mail address at a U.S. educational institution which contains the domain suffix .edu;
    OR
    Pre-Approved School List: Enrolled in a U.S. educational institution included on the pre-approved school list;
    OR
    Submission of school enrollment: Submit verifiable school enrollment via the validation process;

    AND

  2. Individual must be a student at a U.S. educational institution and must be actively enrolled in at least 0.5 course credit and be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request.

Microsoft or an appointed vendor may contact you to verify that you are a current student. If documentation is not provided indicating that you are a current student, you will be liable to reimburse Microsoft for the difference between what you paid and the estimated retail price of the software.

Program Description:
Eligible students are allowed to purchase up to one perpetual license from each of the four sections below:

  1. Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 ($59.95), which includes the following applications:
  2. Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007-($55.95)
  3. Microsoft Office single Language Pack 2007-($9.95)
  4. Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade - ($64.95)

Purchase Limitations:
Eligible students may purchase up to four licenses, but no more than one license from each of the four sections above per valid e-mail address or billing address.

Obtaining Software:
Eligible students can obtain the software by downloading or ordering a disk from the official Promotion web site. The cost for ordering disk(s) is $13. Microsoft Office Language Pack 2007 is not available on disk.
*Business Contact Manager and Office Accounting Express require a separate download. If ordering a disk, Business Contact Manager and Office Accounting Express are each included on separate disks.

Obtaining Product Keys:
Product keys will be provided on the purchase confirmation page and sent to the student's eligible educational institution e-mail address entered into the Promotion web site during the purchase process.

We have an EndNote Site License for all Faculty, Students, and Staff with home use. Media can be downloaded via the MUSC Software Download page at http://www.musc.edu/infoservices/software/, or checked out via the Library. The most current version available is X2.0 for Windows and X2.0 for Mac OS X. The following license terms apply:

Authorized Use of the Software

  1. During the Term of this Agreement, Licensee shall have the non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install the Software (and any upgrades thereto) on a network server, used to install or run the Software on other computers owned or operated by Licensee over an internal network at the Authorized Site(s). Authorized users of the Software may also install the Software on personal computers, including laptops, and home computers.

  2. The following are prohibited:

SPSS

Statistical Package for the Social Sciences

MUSC has a perpetual, unlimited (enterprise) license for both Mac and Windows for staff and faculty only. The most current version available is 17.0 for Windows and 17.0 for Mac OS X. This can be used as both a network and a site license. The only limitation is that it must be used and installed on University owned and housed computers. For example, you wouldn’t be able to put this on student-owned laptops. But for the labs, classrooms, libraries, administration, faculty (laptop and desktop), it can be used in these settings. Home use by full-time employees and faculty members is permitted. The media can be checked out via the library. There are no associated costs to do so.

The products in our package include:

SamplePower and AnswerTree are still part of our contract; however they are no longer in development and will not be upgraded.

There are not separate 32 and 64-bit versions of Statistics 17. You can install Statistics 17 on Microsoft Windows XP (32-bit version only ) or Vista (32-bit and 64-bit versions). SAS

Statistical Analysis Software

MUSC has licenses for the following:

The price of a license is $125.00 for faculty/staff and $50 for students, payable by IIT or check made out to OCIO. Deliver to Rob Williams at 201 HOT, or Paul Croy at 25 Ehrhardt Street. If you are purchasing SAS 9.1.3, The Setinit will be sent via MUSC e-mail address after we receive payment. If you are purchasing SAS 9.2, the SAS Installation Data File (SID file) is on DVD media.

Media for both 9.1.3 and 9.2 are available for check-out at the Computer Connection located at 25 Ehrhardt Street. The media for 9.2 is available in both the 32-bit, and x64 platforms. The media can be checked out for 2 days. Friday check outs are due back Monday.


Adobe

Adobe media and licenses can be purchased through our reseller, CompuSult at 722-0002.

Portable or Home Computer Use: The primary user of the computer on which the software is installed may install a second copy of the software for exclusive use on either a portable computer or a computer located at the primary user's home, provided that the software on the portable or home computer is not used at the same time as the software on the primary computer.

Adobe Student Licensing Option (Available to faculty and staff as well)

We now have the Adobe Student Licensing Option available. This option provides significant savings on certain Adobe products and is available to all faculty, staff and students. There are 13 packages available:

There is no minimum order quantity for the products purchased under the Student Licensing Option. All student licensing orders can be placed for any quantity of titles offered under the program, but you may only purchase one (1) copy of a particular product within a 12-month period. To order your copy of Adobe, contact our reseller, CompuSult at 722-0002. Faculty or Student IDs must be given prior to shipping.



Adobe Connect

Formerly Breeze

NST has replaced the Web Conferencing system, breeze.musc.edu, with new hardware and Adobe Connect Pro 7 connect.musc.edu.

There are a few things to note:
- breeze.musc.edu is redirected to connect.musc.edu
- Authentication now uses NetID credentials and any MUSC user may create and host meetings.

From the Adobe website:

- Share screens, use a whiteboard, chat, and videoconference.
- Control meetings and assets with management and reporting tools.
