Optional ARA/PPP Settings

Options

    To access any of the optional ARA/PPP settings you must first open your Remote Access control panel and click on the Options button.

    You will see a list of potential options to choose from, Redialing, Connection, Protocol

Redial Options

  1. To access the Redial: option controls, click on the Redialing tab at the top of the Options window.

  2. The Redial: option causes your computer to automatically redial the remote access phone number (577-7276) for you in the event of a busy signal. By default it is set to Off.

  3. If you choose to use the Redial: option, select Redial main number only.


  4. You may set the number of times the computer will redial to whatever you wish.

  5. It is recommended that in the Time between retries: box you do not set the time to less than 8 seconds. 

Connection Options

  1. Click on the Connection tab at the top of the Options window to set your connection options.

  2. Leave the box next to Use verbose logging unchecked.

  3. The remaining options may be enabled at your discretion by clicking on the box next to each of them.

  4. Selected items have a check mark in the box next to them. 

Protocol Options

  1. Click on the Protocol tab at the top of the Options window to set your protocol options.

  2. Next to Use protocol: you should have PPP chosen.

  3. If enabled, the Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications option causes your computer to dial in to the MUSC network automatically whenever you open a programs such as Netscape or NSCA Telnet. Use this at your discretion.

  4. The Allow error correction and compression in modem option should be checked, if your particular modem will support this option.

  5. To find out if that is the case, check with the manufacturer of your modem.

  6. If this option is supported, you will also want to check the Use TCP header compression option.

  7. Leave the Connect to a command-line host option unchecked.
