OACIS (Open Architecture Clinical Information System)
OACIS is MUSC's primary Electronic Medical Record (EMR). It is a data repository for patient results collected by other systems/programs within the hospital. Other systems, such as Lab's Cerner and Radiology's IDXRad, are constantly feeding results into OACIS. The advantage for our clinicians is it is one program where they may access the results collected by multiple ancillary departments. We began collecting results in OACIS in June of 1993 (Click here for list of all types of results in OACIS and when their interfaces were developed). Currently, OACIS is primarily "view only". There is no electronic Order Entry and a limited amount of Clinical Documentation in adult inpatient areas only. This Clinical Documentation project is called C3 (Clinical Computerized Charting).
MUSC's Chief Information Officer (CIO), Frank Clark, and the Board of Directors recently approved the purchase of a new EMR vendor, McKesson. The new McKesson product will be rolled out in phases throughout the hospital and provides not only views of results but Physician Order Entry, Clinical Documentation, Pharmacy Orders and much more. Training
There are several training options available from on-line movies (computer-based training), manuals and classroom training. Please see our training page and choose the best training modality for you.
Forms
The Forms page will give you a comprehensive list of all the Security Agreements for the various systems on campus. Be sure to read each form carefully for fax numbers and pick up locations since they may vary depending on the type of ID and/or access is needed. We use a special form for New Hires which gives multiple accounts (MNA, GroupWise, LYNX & OACIS) by filing out only one form. If you want to send someone through New Hire computer training who is not going through the regular HR's New Hire process, please contact the training staff.
