Q: Where are all my icons (Oacis, PatCom Plus, Oversite, etc…)?
A: There are four locations for icons:
- Standard applications, such as Oacis and Word, will be located on the desktop.
- Other ClinLAN web site shortcuts, such as CATTS, can be found at the clinical default home page for my.musc.edu
- Finally, non-standard applications can be found at either Start -> Programs or in the "MUSC Applications" folder on your desktop (not all workstations have or need the "MUSC Applications" folder).
NOTE: Applications do not “follow” you; they are installed directly to (and only onto) your main machine.Q: I’m not getting my icons when I log in.
A: Please contact the Support Desk; we will verify your account’s settings.Q: I get a, “This computer is in use and has been locked…..” message when attempting to log in.
A: For patient and network security reasons, after 15 minutes, a LYNX workstation will switch to a screen saver. Only the user who was logged in or a system administrator can unlock the workstation. If a system administrator unlocks the workstation, any unsaved work could be lost. If you cannot find the user who locked the workstation, you can also shut down the workstation. As with a "system admin" unlocking, all unsaved work could be lost.Q:Where is my CATTS icon?
A: Your default home page is probably not set to myMUSC. Check Internet Explorer’s preferences under Tools -> Internet Options. Make sure my.musc.edu/?default=hospital is noted as the default home page. If you do not want myMUSC as your home page, you can go to http://www.educode.com/musc/ and create a shortcut to CATTS on your desktop.Q: Where are my Word and Excel files?
A: When you first save or try to retrieve files, you’ll see “My Documents” instead of “I:”. Don’t worry, in LYNX, “My Documents” is your I: drive. Double-click on the folder called “DATA” and you’ll then see your data subdirectories, such as “Word” and “Excel”.
You can change your default file storage location once you start Word or Excel. Select “Tools”, then “Options”. Click on the “File Locations” tab at the top. Highlight the line that starts “Documents” and click on the “Modify…” button. You’ll again see “My Documents”. Double-click on the folder called “DATA” and you’ll then see your data subdirectories, such as “Word” and “Excel”. Highlight (don’t double-click) the folder you want to use (such as “Word”) and click “OK”.Q: Where’s my O: drive?
A: The “O:” drive has now been changed to “N:”. If you have problems adjusting to this new drive letter, please contact the Support Desk at 2-9700.Q: How can I make a shortcut on the desktop for an internet-based application like SimonWeb Paging or CATTS?
A: Go to the application’s site; for example, http://simonweb.musc.edu. Next to the URL, there will be an icon (for SimonWeb, it’s a little “e”). Click on this icon and drag it to the desktop.Q: How can I make a shortcut on the desktop for a data folder?
A: To create a data folder shortcut, drill down to the folder and right-click. Select Create Shortcut. Then, drag the shortcut to the desktop. You can then right-click on the shortcut’s icon and rename it.Q: Will I be able to install applications locally?
A: Yes and No. Applications that make system registry changes, install drivers, etc… can only be installed by local administrators. There are some applications that you were able to install under ClinLAN that you will not be able to install under LYNX, such as, Acrobat Reader or Shockwave. You should contact your departmental information technology coordinator (if you have one) or the Support Desk for assistance.Q: I don’t have an application I need.
A: Is the needed application one of the licensed applications? If so follow the directions for obtaining licensed applications. If not, please contact the Support Desk.Q: Help! I can't log off!
A: When you cannot log off of any XP-based machine, it means you are using too much space for your desktop. For LYNX users, this translates into having too many files (or enough large files) sitting on your Desktop. To straighten this out, move needed files to your I: drive and delete unnecessary ones.Q: How can I get Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 instead of 5.1?
A: You can get this application through OCIO-IS’s system engineering; please contact the Support Desk.Q: How do I install a network printer?
A: We have instructions with screen shots or without them.Q: How do I install a local printer?
A: Our Welcome to LYNX document has them.Q: I'm trying to telnet to an MUSC host but I get only a flash of a DOS screen?
A: You have to enter the complete host name; for example, instead of "telnet atrium", must enter "telnet atrium.musc.edu".Q: Will DALs allow individual user sign on?
A: NoQ: Will DALs allow access to My Computer, local drives, creating shortcuts etc..., or will it be completely locked down?
A: It will be completely locked down.
