Homeroom Temporary Storage Space

Introduction

Temporary storage space is available on Homeroom for anyone to use. Files placed in the temporary space are automatically deleted after four days. These instructions assume that you have used Homeroom previously.

Connecting to the share

Connecting to Temp Space is slightly different from normal Homeroom access, in that you want to mount the temp directory, instead of the user id. A windows user will map a drive to \\homeroom\temp . A Mac user logs in to Homeroom and then scrolls down and selects the Temp Space volume.

Placing files

Please create a folder and name it as your USER ID (MNA). Items placed outside your folder are likely to get written over or deleted. This is a temporary space, files will be removed after four (4) days
and are not part of the nightly tape backups.

Attention Macintosh Users

A problem with access rights occurs on the Macintosh. When items are created in Temp Space, full rights are given to everyone. If not changed, this allows anyone to delete, modify, or replace your files. To ensure that your files are given correct rights, click on your folder to select it; then press down the Apple key and the i key at the same time and release. You should see a window called User Info, where user is your user id. Ensure that you have read & write access and that everyone else has none.
