Access to Homeroom from a Mac (via Applesahare IP)

AppleShare IP requires Mac OS 7.6.1 or higher.


If you have MacOS 7.6 or higher, you can download the AppleShare Client.
  1. Click on the small apple icon at the top left hand side of the Macintosh Screen. This is the Apple Menu
  2. From the menu that drops down, select Chooser.



  3. Once you are in the Chooser, select AppleShare (top, left).
  4. Click Server IP Address...



  5. You will be prompted to enter the server address
  6. Type in homeroom
  7. Click Connect



  8. You will see Connect to the file server "homeroom" as:
  9. Click on the circle next to Registered User
  10. Next to Name: enter your MUSC Network Account ID
  11. Next to Password: enter you MUSC Network Account password
  12. Click OK



  13. You will see a screen with Select the items you want to use:
  14. In a box below that will be your MUSC Network ID
  15. Click on your MUSC Network ID once so it is highlighted
  16. DO NOT check the box to the right of your MUSC Network ID
  17. Click OK
  18. You are now logged into your Homeroom Directory
  19. Close the Chooser window
  20. You should see a new folder on your Macintosh desktop.
  21. The new folder should have the same name as your MUSC Network Account ID.
  22. This is your Homeroom Directory.
  23. When you're finished, be sure to log out by dragging your Home Directory folder into the trash can.
A few precautions

Always
Disconnect from your Home Directory when you've finished a session
- From a Mac, drag you Home Directory icon into the trash

Never

  1. Never throw out a file that begins with a period (.) These are called "dot" files and are crucialto the smooth operation of your e-mail and other programs (files like .pinerc and .cshrc, etc.).
  2. Never throw out the folder called mail
  3. Never throw away the files ovid.cci, ovid.ini, or ovid.hcc These files contain your Ovid configuration.
  4. Do not let unneeded files accumulate: keep your Home Directory lean.
