Registry Key to Disable Autorun

Why you should disable autorun: a very large percentage of computer viruses today spread via USB devices utilizing the autorun exploit. Disabling autorun prevents the malware from spreading automatically from USB keys.

Please note that this only works on Windows PCs. It works on Windows XP, Vista. Windows 7 has autorun turned off by default.

Note: You must be logged in as an administrator to run this registry update.

1. Click here to run the Registry Update File

2. Click the Run Button when prompted.

3. Click the Yes button to ok the registry edit.

4. Click OK.

5. Reboot your PC. It might ask you to do this automatically, or it may require a manual reboot.

Note: If you receive an error, this is probably due to running the registry file without sufficient administrator privileges. Please log in as a local administrator.
