State Specifications:

General Nature of Work:

Performs a variety of routine manual tasks.

Guidelines for Class Use/Distinguishing Characteristics:

This class includes employees who may function as a crew leader for a small group of laborers.

Examples of Work:

Assists masons, carpenters, plasterers or painters by scraping, cleaning and moving scaffolds.
Plants tree seedlings.
Shovels, rakes, backfills, taps and smoothes earth around bridges and highways.
Assists with public traffic direction during road repairs.
Maintains tools and equipment.
Washes windows; mops and waxes floors.
Loads and unloads equipment and supplies.
Disposes of waste and trash.
Mows lawns, rakes leaves and keeps grounds free of debris.
Handles lines during marine vessel docking operations; repairs, splices and stows lines when not in use.
Performs security watches while vessel is in port.
Provides relief to vessel operator when vessel is underway.
Serves as a crew leader for a small group of laborers.
