Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the responsibilities and
role of the Pear Officer?
A: The Pear Officers are responsible for ensuring
that all appropriate procedures are followed as required by the
department policies and business practices.
Q: Is the PEAR officer the sole person
responsible?
A: No. Everyone involved in the
PEAR process shares responsibility. According to the internal organization
of a given department, several employees can be in charge of different
groups of employees. For instance, within a department, Pears on
Clinical employees can be handled by a different person than Pears
on Research employees. Whoever is in charge of those Pears is responsible
for ensuring that all internal business rules are followed when
dealing with those forms. When they forward the Pear to the primary
officer for final approval and submission to HRM, they are accountable
for their area of responsibility.
Q: Does the Pear Officer have to initiate
the Pear?
A: No. The initiation and departmental
processing of the form can be performed by other designated employees.
However, only the Pear Officers are allowed to submit the Pears
to HRM. See above for the sharing of responsibilities.
Q: How are Pear Officers designated?
How is the official list of Pear Officers updated (due to turn over,
new employee, change in functions...)?
A: The Pear Officers are designated by the Deans
of Colleges or VPs.
