Disability and Supplemental Care Plans

The State System

The following plans are administered through the Employee Insurance Program (EIP) of the State of South Carolina:

Basic Long Term Disability
  • There are no additional costs with health insurance plan enrollment.
  • You are eligible to receive 62.5% of your monthly salary or maximum $800.00 a month, after one year of State service.
  • There is a 90-day waiting period and it is offset by other plans.
  • Pre-existing conditions will not be covered for 12 months from the date of coverage.

Supplemental Long Term Disability
  • The plan provides 65% of your monthly salary or maximum $8,000.00 a month. Minimum monthly benefit is $100 per month
  • Premiums are paid by the employee and are based upon age, salary and the plan chosen (90 day or 180 day waiting period)
  • Pre-existing conditions will not be covered for 12 months from date of coverage.

South Carolina Retirement System Disability Plan
  • This plan is available to SCRS and PORS participating employees with at least five years of earned service.

Long Term Care (LTC) Insurance
  • LTC refers to a wide range of personal care and social service for people of all ages who suffer a chronic disease or long-lasting disability.
  • You can review the plans
    - Summary: choices and coverage provided by your plan.
    - Features: features provided in your plan.
    - Eligibility: eligibility and qualifying for benefits.
  • You are able to purchase coverage to protect yourself and/or immediate family. Cost of coverage based on the age and benefit of insured
  • Eligibility for benefits is based on the inability to perform three of six activities of daily living (bathing, continence, dressing, eating, toileting or transferring, ).
  • Pre-existing conditions will not be covered for 12 months
