BENEFITS:

Q: How is my annual leave paid out when I terminate?
A: Remaining annual leave, not to exceed 360 hours (45 days), will be paid in lump sum to the employee upon termination. For more information, refer to HR policy 18: Annual Leave.

Q: Will I be paid for my entire leave balance if I have more than 360 hours (45 days)?
A: No. For more information, refer to HR policy 18: Annual Leave.

Q: What should I do if I terminate employment at MUSC?
A: Employees should stop by the appropriate benefits office. University employees should go to 19 Hagood Ave, Suite 105 (Harborview Office Tower) and Medical Center employees should go to the Clinical Sciences Building, Room 109, for an exit interview.

Q: Can I continue my health insurance after I leave MUSC?
A: Yes, under COBRA you may continue health and dental coverage for up to 18 months; however, you are required to pay the full cost of the monthly premiums plus 2%.

Q: Will I be paid for my sick leave?
A: No. Employees who resign or are terminated are NOT eligible to be paid for unused sick leave.   However, employees who retire may apply up to 720 hours of unused sick leave toward retirement service credits. For more information, refer to HR policy 19: Sick Leave.

 

RETIREMENT:
Q: When can I retire under the SC retirement system?
A:  You may retire one of the following ways:
  • Normal Retirement (unreduced benefits)
  • Early Retirement (reduced benefits)

Make sure you thoroughly review the two information brochures form the SCRS: Investing for Your Retirement and Select Your Retirement Plan. For more information, consult the SCRS Member Brochure and the PORP Member Brochure. For SCRS and PORS Defined Benefit Plans, the State of South Carolina web site features a Benefit Calculator and a Service Purchase Cost Calculator. The State of South Carolina Retirement System website also offers a Benefit Comparator between the SCRS Traditional Plan and the State ORP.
