Congestive heart failure is the most increasingly prevalent cardiovascular disorder. Two to three million Americans suffer with CHF, and approximately 400,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Five-year mortality rates are approximately 50 percent overall, and 80 percent in those with the most severe disease. As a leader in research and medical innovations, MUSC offers many options for the treatment of severe heart failure including a CHF clinic staffed by a nurse practitioner, clinical drug trials, and left-ventricular assist device (LVAD). Our physicians also serve the residents of South Carolina through outreach clinics in Greenville, Beaufort, and Aiken. Physicians may make patient referrals by contacting Dr. Adrian Van Bakel, or Dr. Naveen Pereira.
