| Steps in Using Excel to Generate
a Regression Analysis
1) Select "Tools" and then "Data Analysis"
(If "Data Analysis" is not available under the "Tools" menu see the instructions
for adding Data analysis.)
2) A dialog box will open and you scroll
down to "Regression" - highlight and click "OK"
3) The regression dialog box will open
and you need to supply the following information:
Y Range: This is the data
for your dependent variable. For many of the examples in this text
this will be "cost". You can either type the cell range for the data
directly or use your mouse to highlight the range.
X Range: This is the data for your
independent variable. For this text this will often be In class this was
"volume". You can either type the cell range for the data directly
or use your mouse to highlight the range.
This is really all the info you need to generate
the regression. You can now click "OK" and watch the computer do its work!
The new sheet created by the regression analysis
has all the information you need.
