Structural & Chemical Biology

This program, funded by NSF EPSCoR, provides opportunities for students majoring in chemistry to conduct research at the interface of modern chemistry and biology.

Research areas include lipid biochemistry and enzymology, enzymes of DNA and RNA metabolism, mechanisms of RNA/protein and DNA/protein interactions, design and synthesis of biologically active compounds, biomolecular recognition, natural product chemistry, and structural biology focused on structure of small (including lipids) and macro-molecules. Research projects may utilize X-ray diffraction, EPR spectroscopy, NMR spectrometry, mass spectrometry, and other proteomics technologies.
