College of Graduate Studies, Medical University of South Carolina

The EXPORT center represents a collaborative partnership between South Carolina State University and the Medical University of South Carolina to promote minority investigators in the profession of health. The research theme of EXPORT is the metabolic syndrome, which is most often recognized by obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. This condition is epidemic in the United States and at crisis proportions in the minority community, where it has gained a strong foothold in youth and young adults. This program training will provide a unique opportunity for minority undergraduate students to become directly involved in health professional research. It will also provide a cutting edge experience that will give students an appreciation of a career in the health professions as it relates to the metabolic syndrome. Students will be mentored by a faculty member in their selected field of interest in order to gain insight on the important factors associated with the profession.
