Purpose: The goal of the program is to introduce students in the health professions to biomedical research by allowing them to work during the summer in a research environment under the guidance of an experienced investigator.

Eligibility: Students in MUSC's Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Professions and other Medical Schools throughout the United States, who are enrolled in a professional graduate program (e.g. MD, PharmD, DMD) are eligible to apply. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater. If applicants are on a pass/fail system, they must provide a letter from their Dean's office certifying that they are in good standing and passing with a 3.0 or above. Preference is given to students with a GPA of 3.2 or above. Students with Ph.D. research degrees or extensive research experience are not eligible for this program. Students may participate in this program at any point in their course of study. A student may not hold other employment during the period of the award. The program is administered through the College of Graduate Studies, Suite 101 in the Bioengineering Building. The host sponsor must have adequate resources to support the proposed student project.

Awards: Students will be awarded a living allowance of approximately $3900 for 10 weeks. Those students accepted for the program should be prepared to be able to support themselves for the first 4 weeks of the program as it may take that long for the first stipend check to be available.

Program Dates: May 20, 2013 to July 26, 2013.
