I am researching modulation of pulmonary fibrosis via biosynthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Animal models of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP) are used to characterize pulmonary fibrosis following reovirus 1 / L - induced disease.  Synthesis of PGE2 is controlled via the cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme that is activated during the inflammatory processes associated with ARDS and BOOP development.  Our laboratory has recently begun examining the relationship between protein kinase C epsilon (PKC-e) and cyclooxygenase-2.  Data quantifying this relationship will provide valuable information that may explain PKC-e alterations during fibrosis.
