Thanks for your great work on Assignment #1! One of the features on Project
WISE allows teachers to assess and comment on student work. In the coming
weeks, Marsha and I will be reading through your Discussion comments and
Inquiry Reflections. We will be making comments and offering feedback to you
individually via the Project WISE site focusing mainly on the Discussion. To
view our feedback, click on the blue tab of the first Student page that says
"View Work." If we have made comments, there will be a notation next
to the title of the project "2004 RT Assignments #1-6."
- Look
for the Science Teaching Forum travel planning memo in the mail next week.
After you've reviewed the memo, please email Brooke with any travel questions
you might have (bbruthers@the-aps.org).

Please welcome the 2004 Mentors! Each year, we invite former Research Teachers
to act as mentors to the current RTs. You will meet the Mentors first via an
email introduction (we've already heard from Kris Clements) and in then person
at the Science Teaching Forum. You will have the chance to work with all six of
the Mentors through the Fellowship year. In addition you will be assigned to
one Mentor as a point of contact. The Mentors are invaluable resources and are
eager to work with you this year.

Assignment #2 is due on June 3rd. It's a little longer, so be sure to read
through it this weekend if you haven't already.
++++RESOURCES++++
- Check out
http://spaceresearch.nasa.gov/ - the homepage of NASA's Office of Biological
and Physical Research. OBPR conducts interdisciplinary, peer reviewed,
fundamental and applied research to address the opportunities and challenges to
NASA that are provided by the space environment and the human exploration of
space. There are news updates about their latest research efforts and a section
for students. Great pictures, too!

Visit the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Career Cornerstone Center at
www.careercornerstone.org. Based
on the award winning, "Sloan Career Cornerstone Series" CD-Rom and
videotape set, this new website provides career resources for those pursuing
careers in engineering, mathematics, information technology, and the physical
sciences. The goal of the site is to help students make informed career
decisions based on the day-to-day experiences of those already working in these
fields.

A note
from one of your mentors, Diana DeSpain (Frontiers 2002):
"Enjoy
every minute of the fellowship experience because it goes by so
fast. You are so absorbed in the material and
assignments that it will
take
you a year just to compress and reflect on it all. So soak it up,
relax,
and enjoy the incredible journey that the APS will take you on!"
As
always, feel free to contact any of us in the Education Office with questions,
suggestions or concerns.
Best
regards,
Kathleen
