"I question that..."
Now's
a great time to check into the Project WISE site and hop into the Discussion in
Activity 4. Wait time, yes & no answers, question quality are just some of
the topics of discussion. If you need another copy of the two articles, go to
the 2004 RT website http://www.the-aps.org/education/2004rts/assign.htm to
download the PDFs.
++++DEADLINES++++
-
December 15: Final version of your lab/activity due
-
December 28: Assignment #4 due
-
December 31: Spend Mini-Grant
funds
++++RESOURCES++++
- A
Virtual Community for Minorities in Science: The JGH Biography project
highlights the contribution of minorities to science. The biographies run about
one page and could be useful in for Internet treasure hunts or to supplement a
lab. Go to http://www.justgarciahill.org/webbiography.asp to take a look.
Currently, you can only look up scientists by name...hopefully they'll add a
"search by discipline" function.
- Here's another great site for
elementary and middle school students with a checklist on how to evaluate a web
page: http://www.quick.org.uk/menu.htm
-
Digital Equity Toolkit: This web site points educators to free and inexpensive,
high quality resources that help address the digital divide in the classroom
and community. http://nici-mc2.org/de_toolkit/
++++OPPORTUNITIES++++
-
ThinkQuest is an international website-building competition, sponsored by the
Oracle Education Foundation. Teams of students and teachers are challenged to
build websites on educational topics. These websites are published in the
popular ThinkQuest Library and top-scoring teams win valuable prizes. The
October 2004 competition cycle is open (web site files upload deadline of March
15, 2005). See the web site for information and to register a team of students
http://www.thinkquest.org/competition/index.shtml
- Have
you registered at Adopt-a-Classroom http://www.adoptaclassroom.com/ ? The web
site acts as a matching service between individual and corporate donors and
classrooms forming partnerships and providing financial and moral support. To
participate, teachers must meet the following eligibility requirements:
* You must teach at a U.S. public school
* Your school must have been established
before Aug. 15, 2001.
* You must have a valid e-mail address.
If
your classroom is adopted, you receive a $500.

EDUCATION OFFICE NEWS++++
- The
APS offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Wish me luck...I'm cooking. Or... wish my guests luck! I will be checking email
if you want to "talk turkey" about your lab/activity revisions.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Have a
restful holiday,
Kathleen
