++++OPPORTUNITIES++++

- Jo-Ann Stores, a national chain of fabric and craft retailers, in partnership with the School, Home and Office Products Association (SHOPA), is offering grants in every state through SHOPA's Kids in Need program. The program will fund hands-on projects designed to enhance student learning. The $100 to $500 grants provide educators with funding to provide new learning opportunities that incorporate crafts. Click below for the online grant application. Note: Applications are due Sept. 30th. http://www.shopa.org/shopa_foundation/2004_teacher_grant_app.php?source=joann

- Oh no, Ozone: http://pathfinderscience.net/ozone

Each fall students from all over the country participate in "Keeping an Eye on Ozone" at the Pathfinder Science web site.  Ground level ozone is believed to be the most ubiquitous air pollutant and the cause of much

injury to the biosphere. This research project is design for upper

elementary through high school age students. Two easy to follow,

network-wide, standardized protocols are offered. Students can gather and submit data.

- It's ISTF time: The Internet Science and Technology Fair offers students in grades 3 through 12 a chance to work on-line with technical advisors from corporations, federal laboratories, and academic research centers. Students relate National Critical Technology applications to real-world problems. Technical advisors are practicing or retired professionals who volunteer their support, expertise, and guidance "on-line" to student teams as they research and develop their ISTF projects. The program officially begins in October and ends in February, when each team's final project is due in a web-page format. http://istf.ucf.edu/

Happy Friday,

Kathleen
