+++++DEADLINES+++++

- October 10: "Summer of Science" 1-pager

- November 14 (optional): EB 2004 Abstracts due.

+++++RESOURCES+++++

- Here's a site to help you adapt math & science lessons for students with disabilities. Georgia Institute of Technology's Barrier Free Education is a resource site helping students with disabilities gain access to math and science education. The text and links are intended to inform and assist students with disabilities, parents, and teacher: http://barrier-free.arch.gatech.edu/

An additional resource is the February 2003 issue of NSTA's ScienceScope "Access & Equity." On page 26, there's a great article titled "Making Science Accessible." Don't forget, if you're an NSTA member, you get online access to back issues of NSTA magazines. If you're not a member and don't have access to back copies of ScienceScope, Kathleen can send you a copy of the article.

- Check out our latest WISE unit, "Color Your World," in the WISE APS Teacher Community (click on the Shared Projects Under Construction). This unit was developed by 2000 Explorations CD Fellows, Barbara Arrowtop and Kathy Knudson. In "Color Your World," students explore both the history of dyes and how they can dye objects themselves. Includes both "cookbook" and inquiry-base hands-on labs and addresses objectives in science, social science, and art. It was designed for upper elementary and lower middle school levels. If you would like to field test this WISE unit, contact Kathleen as soon as possible.

+++++OPPORTUNITIES+++++

- RadioShack Corporation is seeking outstanding high school educators for its 2003-2004 National Teacher Awards program. The program is designed to recognize teachers who demonstrate a commitment to educational excellence in mathematics, science, and technology. Sounds like APS RTs to me!!! Deadline is November 7, 200. Web site: http://education.radioshack.com/teacherawards/index.html

- The Horace Mann Scholarship Program offers funds to help children of public and private school employees attend college. The 2003-2004 program will offer 26 scholarships totaling $50,000. Check here for details: https://www.horacemann.com/scholarship/scholarship/scholarship.jsp.

Have a great weekend!

Kathleen
