This
required 6-week Family Medicine rotation is "THE"
Family Medicine core rotation required of all third
year College of Medicine students. The clerkship
directors work diligently with directors from the
other cores to provide an educational program that
more than meets accreditation standards. We
take pride in the fact that the Family Medicine Rural
Clerkship core objectives, as outlined in the beginning
of the syllabus, encompass not just the skills needed
to treat patients coming to the office. The
unique community/practice health improvement project
and the patient home visits also provide
students with valuable experience in addressing the
broader needs of a patient population.
The
rural component has resulted in our receiving national recognition
and has been a model for other institutions. We are proud of the
high student satisfaction scores we consistently receive.
"The
autonomy and
the one-on-one teaching
I received from my rural preceptor have been my best experiences in
medical school."
