Dr. Padgett grew up and attended public school in Bamberg; his father owned a pharmacy.  He saw the health care needs of the community at an early age, especially the minority community. He is dedicated to providing health care to those who need it most.
Dr. Padgett is a school board trustee and is active in his church.

"Easier & faster" way to Bamberg per a pervious student ("cuts out 20-25 minutes because you avoid many little towns on HWY 78"):
1. Take I-26 west to exit 165 (Bowman exit--HWY 201); turn LEFT off exit ramp onto HWY 201.
2. Will come to town of Bowman - follow signs to stay on HWY 201.
3. Will come to town of Branchville and HWY 201 will end - make LEFT onto HWY 21.
4. Will see a sign for HWY 78 - turn RIGHT onto HWY 78 - - Follow HWY 78 into Bamberg.
5. At 1st stoplight, turn RIGHT onto HWY 301 (main street. . . will see sign pointing this direction to hospital).
6. Turn RIGHT onto McGee Street.
7. Turn LEFT onto North Street - will see sign for Dr. Padgett's office.
Housing may be available and is within walking distance from the practice.

Dr. Dwight grew up in rural South Carolina.  He enjoys outdoor recreation and can also access cultural events in nearby metropolitan areas (one hour from Columbia, Augusta, and Charleston). 

Dr. Dwight is active in church programs for all ages and is involved in softball and youth baseball.

Specially funded diabetic initiative to provide resources to patients.  Also, a grant links the practice to hospital lab, x-ray, pharmary, and DSS.  Outreach projects include cholesterol screening and free BP checks.

Useful Info for Students

Students will stay in a furnished duplex in Bamberg managed by Lowcountry AHEC. This housing may be shared with students from other programs. NO PETS, PLEASE.  Or, students may arrange to stay with nearby family or friends.   For security reasons, housing details will be provided to students at orientation.  Questions may be directed to Donna Kern, MD (kerndh@musc.edu).

Students will be notified one week in advance by email to attend the mandatory clerkship Orientation / Academic Days / OSLE during the first 3 days of the rotation.   In addition to clerkship guidelines and instructions, students will be issued laptop computers with online capability, printers & PDA/s--to be used as research and learning tools and to produce required clerkship presentations and documents.
