Radiation Safety Office Online Training
The MUSC Radiation Safety Office offers five different online training courses. The training courses are intended for use by MUSC employees whose employment at MUSC include duties that could potentially expose them to ionizing radiation. Each training course is summarized below. Radiation Safety Training for Laboratory Workers
This training course is designed to provide basic radiation safety training to individuals that use radioactive material for research in a laboratory setting. The training includes general instruction on radiation protection principles, regulatory compliance, health effects, dosimetry, waste disposal and emergency procedures. Radiation Safety Training for Human Research Involving Radiation
This training course is designed to provide basic radiation safety training to individuals that use radioactive material or radiation producing machines for research in human subject studies. The training includes instruction on obtaining Institutional Review Board and Radiation Safety Office approval human research studies involving radiation as well as general instruction on radiation protection principles. Radiation Safety Training for Nurses
This training course is designed to provide basic radiation safety training to nurses that work in proximity to sources of ionizing radiation. The training includes general instruction on radiation protection principles, regulatory compliance, health effects, dosimetry, and patient care.

Radiation Safety Training for Irradiator Operators
This training course is designed to provide basic radiation safety training to individuals that operate irradiators. The training includes general instruction on radiation protection principles, regulatory limits, health effects and emergency procedures. Radiation Safety Training for Diagnostic X-ray Users
This training course supplements the training x-ray users are required to receive on the operation of each machine they use. The training course is designed to provide basic radiation safety training to users that either operate or work in proximity to x-ray machines. The training includes general instruction on radiation protection principles, regulatory compliance, health effects and radiation monitoring.
