BOARD APPROVAL OF BYLAWS CHANGE AND FACULTY HANDBOOK

Dr. Adrian Reuben reported that the topics presented to the Board of Trustees by the Provost
were accepted.   The Board approved the Faculty Handbook in its entirety, including a factual
correction related to the composition  of the Board of Trustees, and the revised Term of Appointment
document.  Dr. Reuben pointed out that the revised Term of Appointment section specifically does not
address the term of appointment of tenured faculty in any detail and this omission must be dealt with in
the coming year.

SENATE COMMITTEES

Senators are urged to serve on one of more Senate committees including Faculty Affairs, Academic Affairs,
University Affairs, Electoral Unit Steering  and Governance. Sign-up sheets were distributed and senators
were asked to sign up.

The members were reminded to contact their alternates if unable to attend a meeting.

Name badges were suggested and will be available to wear at the next meeting.

Each college nominated a representative to serve on the Executive Committee.

The following senators were elected to specific offices:

Library Committee representative - Gail Pashek
Public Communications representative -  Janice Hundley
University Tenure representatives -  Adrian Reuben and Robert Holmes
Healthy South Carolina representative -  Patrick Flume

The Senate must appoint an additional senator to serve on the Parking Committee in place of Dan Knapp who
is no longer on the Senate.

Dr. Reuben announced plans to refer the post tenure review process revision and the ad hoc committee work
related to the consulting policy and the study of promotions of women and minorities   into appropriate senate
subcommittees.

PARKING

Due to requests from many faculty members regarding after hours parking, Dr. Reuben ascertained from Parking Management that any faculty wishing to park in G-Lot or a lot near their building when working after hours simply has to send a written request to Parking Management.

WICKLIFFE HOUSE

Dr.  John Cormier and John Runyon presented the news that because the Wickliffe House requires a subsidy of up to $130,000 annually to operate, food service will be discontinued at the end of this calendar year, and plans have been made to sell the property.  The Wickliffe House consists of a guest house, two apartments, and manor house.

Faculty Senate understands the financial strictures that necessitated this decision but regrets that this decision was made without the Faculty Senate having the opportunity to make suggestions to remedy the situation earlier such as using it as the President's residence, or allowing a successful restaurateur operate it.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 a.m.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at 7:45 am,
Admin./Library, Room 107.
