Spoleto Symposium:

The Art and Science of Voice and Swallowing Disorders

 

The MUSC Evelyn Trammell Institute for Voice and Swallowing and the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Medical University of South Carolina welcomes the 2005 Spoleto Symposium: Medicine in the Vocal Arts.

This 3-day course is designed for otolaryngologists, speech-language pathologists, and vocal professionals who wish to further their understanding of voice and co-existing swallowing disorders.  Among the goals of this conference, participants will be introduced to:

  • The evaluation and management of difficult voice problems.  Demonstrations of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques will be performed.

  • The anatomy and physiology of the aerodigestive tract, with emphasis on the biomechanics of voice and swallowing.

  • Evaluation techniques that use advanced diagnostic instrumentation

  • The interpretation and performance of a videostroboscopic examination.

  • Medical, surgical, and behavioral management alternatives for organic and functional voice disorders, with emphasis on diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas.
