Description
CVP is a baccalaureate program in the College of Health Professions. Perfusionists are responsible for the maintenance of the patient's life during open-heart surgery when cardiac and respiratory functions are diverted to the heart-lung machine. The Cardiovascular Perfusion program in the College of Health Professions at the Medical University of South Carolina is considered to be one of the best programs in the country. The program has an active research agenda focused on improving patient care through scientific evaluation of techniques and devices used in the practice of cardiovascular perfusion including patient outcomes. The graduates of this program are among the most sought-after in the field with starting salaries around $65,000.

Requirements
Prerequisites for admission to the Cardiovascular Perfusion program consist of a minimum of two years (60 semester hours) at an accredited college or university, competitive SAT or ACT scores, and a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above in all college work.
