WELCOME to the Dietetic Internship at the Medical University of South Carolina, the South's oldest medical school located in historic Charleston, SC. We thank you for visiting! How is this program structured?
Our internship is a non-credit, certificate program designed to prepare graduates to become eligible to take the Registered Dietitian board exam. We accept 8 interns for a 10-month, full-time supervised practice experience. We will accept applications at the February 15, 2009 deadline for our next class beginning on August 17, 2009. Effective March 2009, the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) mandates that each internship declare at least one concentration area to further develop entry-level depth necessary for future proficiency in a specialization. This internship will focus on Clinical Medical Nutrition Therapy by adding additional practice experiences. However, our excellent core experiences in traditional venues (i. e. foodservice and community), and in non-traditional venues (i. e. culinary, research, and wellness) will not change. Our program consists of over 20 rotations in 13 different healthcare settings under the supervision of over 30 qualified preceptors. We pride our internship for its variety of experiences. Who can apply? You are eligible to apply to this program if you are a student who has graduated (or about to graduate) with a minimum of a bachelors degree in Nutrition/Dietetics from an accredited program recognized by the American Dietetic Assocation (called a "Didactic Program in Dietetics"). How can I learn more? Browse this website, print out a Program Brochure or take a Virtual Tour (requires Windows Media Player).
