BOTOX and the Family Physician
Concept Paper
Lee G. Chisolm, M.D.

BACKGROUND
BOTOX injections are used to cosmetically improve wrinkles in the glabellar lines, "crow's feet", and horizontal facial lines. Over the past decade, BOTOX injections have become the most widely performed cosmetic procedure in the world. With this increasing demand, Family Physicians are becoming trained and have begun performing the procedure.

METHODS
A workshop was developed to instruct residents at the Trident Family Medicine program on the use of BOTOX injections. Surveys were given to the residents before and after the workshop.

RESULTS:
The results of the initial survey assessed the residents' opinions on aesthetic services and their potential use in their practice, the current ability of the program to prepare them for this training, and the best teaching teaching methods for Aesthetic training.

The results of the follow up survey assessed the residents' opinions on the effectiveness of the workshop.

CONCLUSION
Training in BOTOX injections is desired by residents at the Trident Family Medicine Residency Program. The skills seminar was widely successful and enjoyed by residents. BOTOX training should continue in the residency program. Other Aesthetic Procedure training should be offered by the residency program
