Terrence E. Steyer, MD
Dr. Steyer is a native of Pittsburgh, PA and received his
Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Allegheny College
and his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University
in Cleveland. He served as National President of the American
Medical Student Association (AMSA) for 1 year before starting
his residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He then completed the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars
Program at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Steyer serves as director of the transitional year residency
program and is also actively involved in family medicine education
on both the medical student and resident level. He is an active
researcher where his interests are the interaction between
alternative medicine and conventional medicine, medical education
issues, and direct to consumer pharmaceutical advertising.

Peter J. Carek, MD
Dr. Carek received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Clemson
University and his Doctor of Medicine degree from MUSC.
He completed his Family Medicine Residency at MUSC, where
he served as Chief Resident. From 1990-92, Dr. Carek served
as primary care sports fellow at the Ohio Physical Therapy
and Sports Medicine and the University of Tennessee Medical
Center at Knoxville. He also obtained his Master's Degree
in Human Performances and Sports Studies at the University
of Tennessee.
Dr. Carek joined the faculty in 1992 and has been Residency
Program Director since 1995. His main areas of interest
are sports medicine, physical activity and health promotion
in addition to quality improvement.

Leonie Gordon, MD

Sam Kini, MD
Dr. Kini works with the Department of Emergency Medicine

Barry Hainer, MD
Dr. Hainer, a native of New York and a graduate of
Johns Hopkins University and the Georgetown University School
of Medicine, completed his residency training in family medicine
at the MUSC in 1979. After practicing for a year in rural
Virginia, Dr. Hainer returned as a faculty member at MUSC
from 1980-1985. From 1982-85, he served as the director of
undergraduate education in our Department of Family Medicine.
From 1985-88, he served as residency program director at East
Carolina University, where he received the Faculty Award for
Outstanding Teaching in 1988 from residents. Returning in
1988 to the MUSC, Dr. Hainer served as Residency Program Director
until 1992 and currently serves as Director of Patient Care
Services. Dr. Hainer's professional interests include procedural
skills and immunization training. Personal Interests:
bicycling, family, growing roses, rollerblading, squash, photography,
and parenting |
