Biography
Originally from California, Dr. David Oyster received his B. S. degree
from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1974. After serving as a Line Officer for
five years, he then pursued and received his D.M.D. degree from the University
of Florida College of Dentistry in 1985. He reentered the Navy, first serving
as a General Dentist for seven years. He completed his Periodontics Specialty
Residency in 1994, at the National Naval Dental School, in Bethesda, MD.,
and concurrently earned his Masters Degree in Oral Biology from George
Washington University. After a tour in Jacksonville, FL, and another in
Charleston, SC., he retired from the Navy in 2002 after twenty-one and
a half years of active duty, to enter private practice. Dr. Oyster is a
Diplomate, American Board of Periodontology, and past Fellow, American
Academy of General Dentistry. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor, Medical
University of South Carolina, College of Dentistry, Division of Periodontics.
He is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Board
of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Academy of Osseointegration,
the SCDA, and other professional organizations. He has lectured for the
Navy as well as dental societies and study clubs. He is married to the
former Deborah Medalen and has lived in Mt. Pleasant since 1998. Hobbies
include swimming, tennis, boating, water and snow skiing.
