Case 5: Swelling Part I. 60 year-old African American female with a 10 year history of diabetes mellitus along with long-standing history of hypertension has noted that her shoes have not been as comfortable and that she needed to buy a size bigger shoes a month ago. She also notes that over the past three months her legs swell when she stands for a long period of time. She also has a history of chronic knee pain which she takes 1-2 ibuprofen a day. She states her blood pressure has been higher over the last year and that her diabetes is in good control. She has no recent hospitalizations or recent infections. She has no diabetic retinopathy. She admits that she does not see the doctor as much as she is supposed to.
