Faculty, Staff and Student IT Resources
MUSC Network Account: New students should have received an MNA username and password via certified mail. If you did not receive your MNA information in the mail, you will receive it at your library orientation. New faculty and staff should receive information during orientation. This account allows you to access the MUSC network outside of MUSC through the PPP server. Go to the PPP site for more information. Cable or DSL internet users can access through a VPN (virtual private network) connection. Go to the VPN pages for instructions. The DBBE department does not maintain nor know your MNA password and it is up to you to record it and remember it. You can change your password by going to the password manangement page. The MNA account will also give you access to a directory called homeroom on the MUSC server. For information regarding your homeroom directory go here: Homeroom Information
Biometry Department Server Access: New students:
The DBBEstudent computer lab is available for assigned
students to use. You will be given an ID and password consistent with your MNA for these computers when you begin taking
classes. MUSC Webmail http://webmail.musc.edu is available in order for you to access your email at your MUSC email address When you log in you will have access to the department server. Drives and designated uses are listed below. Students do not have a local home directory. Private files should be kept in your homeroom account.
Department Server:
The application and file server name is DB2E-FS and runs on Windows 2003 Server. The Domain is DB2E.
Each user is given a unique ID by the ITC consistent with the campus assigned MNA. The user logs on the first time with a generic
password and then is prompted to create a new password. The user is the only person who knows his/her password. The Administrator does not keep user passwords.
Often used directories and related drive letters on workstations.
Common (Drive M: ) - Contains applications that are available to all domain users and applications that are run from the server.
Shared (Drive S: ) - Shared directory for research and project related material for assigned users. (Note: this drive will eventually fork into two - one for EPHI data stored in encrypted file format, and one for standard file shares)
Home (Drive I: ) – users private home directory (only user can access their own home directory unless another user has
specifically been given rights)
