Global Health and its Importance to MUSC
Dear Faculty: We are pleased to invite you to our annual Faculty Convocation, to be held Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at 4:30 pm. We will gather in the Basic Sciences Building Auditorium in order to discuss and consider this year's theme “Global Health and its Importance to MUSC.” As always, we also celebrate the accomplishments of colleagues through awards for teaching, research and clinical excellence. We are particularly excited to announce our keynote speaker, William M. Plater, B.A., M.A., Ph.D., from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis and Indiana University). William (Bill) Plater has been a champion for internationalizing the university since he joined the Indiana University-Purdue University faculty in 1983. He serves as director of the Office of International Community Development.
Plater's interest in enhancing the experiences of students and faculty extends beyond his ties to Indiana, to universities around the world. He has contributed significantly to the development of partnerships with numerous other institutions, including the National Institute of Development Administration in Bangkok, Thailand; the University of Bremen in Germany; the University of Bologna in Italy; Moi University in Kenya; Hebrew University of Jerusalem; Peking University and Sun Yat-Sen University in China; the University of Tehran in Iran; and the American University of Cairo. After the ceremony, we’ll enjoy refreshments in the lobby of Colcock Hall.
