FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Q: I think something that is happening in my department is a compliance violation, but I'm not sure. Is it best not to worry about it if I'm not certain it is important?
  2. A: You should notify your supervisor even if you are not sure it is a violation. If this is not possible, you can notify one of the Medical Center Compliance Officers or the Compliance Hotline.

  3. Q: A potential vendor has offered to pay for a trip to their headquarters to test their product, is it okay for me to accept?
  4. A: No, under state ethics law you cannot accept gifts (including transportation and other travel expenses) from a vendor.

  5. Q: If I see my neighbor at one of our clinics, is it okay for me to discuss it with coworkers?
  6. A: No, as part of MUSC's Confidentiality Policy, you must keep all information about patients confidential.

  7. Q: I am aware of a compliance violation, but I don't want to get involved, nothing can happen to me, can it?

    A: Yes, If a violation occurs and it is discovered that you were aware of it, you will be disciplined for withholding information.
