 Title: Diagnostic Radiology

Any student enrolled in RAD 851 and not having taken RAD 880J will be required to attend RAD 880J lectures.

Description

This course attempts to provide the student with various means to understand the importance of radiology in the patient's diagnostic evaluation through lecture, observation of the various modalities and interplay of departments in the reading room atmosphere.  Teaching film series and case presentations are also involved.

Course Objective

  • Give the student an understanding of the scope and limitations of imaging in diagnosis/therapy of disease
  • Give students an awareness of cost/risk/benefits of imaging
  • Teach students how to accurately recognize common radiographic findings
  • Provide a role model in delivery of optima radiological care and consultive service

Description

The students will participate in the full spectrum of pediatric imaging through daily neonatal rounds, weekly teaching conferences with oncology and pediatric surgery as well as through the daily clinical work of plain files, ultrasound, CT, MRI and fluoroscopy.

Course objectives

  • Obtain a greater understanding of neonatal disease processes
  • Gain a greater understanding of the role if imaging in the management of pediatric diseases
  • Be able to describe the common pediatric radiologic procedures, their strengths and limitations.
  • Develop a basic approach to the interpretation of pediatric plain films.

Description

General overview of the radiology subspecialty of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. Students will rotate through the fluoroscopic and computed tomography areas of the interventional radiology and become familiar with the disease states common to the practice and the techniques in which they are treated. This includes vascular, biliary, urologic problems as well as CT guided biopsies and abscess drainage.

Course objectives

  • Understand the problems associated with peripheral vascular disease and the strategies for endovascular treatment.
  • Understand the complicated patient with hepatobliary disease and the strategies involved in minimally invasive treatment.
  • Understand our ability to assist treatment in the urological patient with ureteral obstruction.
  • Understand MR and CT angiographyy as well as CT guided interventional techniques.

 Title: Neuroradiology

Description

This rotation will provide the student with a broad overview of neuroradiology. It is designed specifically for students with an interest in Neurology, Neuropsychiatry, Neurosurgery and Opthamology, Otorhinolaryngology and Radiology. The student will be expected to be an active participant during the month. Four days a week will be spent in the Neuroradiology reading room going over CT and MR studies with residents, fellows and attendings. Opportunities to learn how to acquire, perform and manipulate 3-D images.

Course objectives

  • Appreciate the variety of neuroradiology precedures and have an understanding of their appropriate utilization.
  • Understand the indications for CT, CT angiography, CT perfusion, MRI/MRA and angiography in Neuroradiology.
  • Recognize common abnormalities encountered in Neuroradiology.
  • Understand the relationship of the Neuroradiologist as a respected member of a multi-disciplinary team.
