Title: Gynecological Oncology Externship

Description

Student will function as a sub intern on the gynecologic oncology service in the setting of the inpatient service, outpatient clinic and operating room.  Formal didactic teaching and a weekly tumor board are included.

Course objectives

  • Learn the essentials of diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers
  • Actively participate on a comprehensive gynecologic oncology service
  • Observe and learn basic principles of surgery for gynecologic cancer
  • Learn fundamentals of chemotherapy and radiation therapy for gynecologic cancer

Description

The rotation is designed to offer the student an opportunity to enhance their experience in the management of outpatient obstetrical and gynecological patients. This will include both low and high-risk obstetrical care and gynecological care of all age groups including colposcopy. The student will work with residents, faculty and nurse midwives.

Course objectives

  • Acquire and understanding of primary and preventive care for women
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform a thorough obstetric-gynecologic history and physical examination
  • Apply the knowledge gained to assess patients and develop treatment plans
  • Interact with specialists and generalists in the field of obstetrics and gynecology in order to recognize the bredth and depth of the specialty
  • Practice surgical skills

Description

This elective rotation is designed to offer the student an opportunity for enhanced experience in the management of high-risk obstetrical patients. The student will have a tutorial relationship with the faculty and fellows from the Section of Maternal-Fetal medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Clinically, the student will have an experience in ultrasonography, genetic counseling, prenatal diagnostic testing, and high-risk antepartum care. The student will also participate in the intrapartum care of private high risk obstetrical patients and have the opportunity to participate in operative obstetrics. The student will also participate in weekly didactic teaching conferences sponsored by the section of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Course objectives

  • Management of high-risk obstetrical patients including those with premature labor, premature rupture of the membranes, chronic and pregnancy-induced hypertension, diabetes, collagen vascular disease, etc. 
  • Etiology and treatment of the above
