Successful navigation through medical school requires that you be aware of several important policies, procedures, and guidelines specific to the College of Medicine and University. The policies and procedures are in place to ensure your success and help you maintain the high academic and professional standards necessary to be a physician. In general, the College of Medicine abides by and follows all University policies, although there are some policies that are unique and specific only to the College of Medicine. Part of being an excellent physician is always knowing expectations and ensuring those are met. These skills will continue to serve you well as you are required to obtain and maintain licensure, hospital privileges, credentialing, and beyond. The Medical University of South Carolina Student Handbook is managed by the Office of Student Programs and the College of Medicine Student Handbook is managed by The Group on Academics and Student Activities (GASA). These handbooks provide basic information about student services, facilities, campus activities/organizations, the MUSC Student Government Association, and university and college policies and procedures. They are to be used in conjunction with the Bulletin of the Medical University of South Carolina at http://www.musc.edu/bulletin. Although the handbooks and bulletin are filled with useful information, they cannot take the place of talking with someone in person or on the telephone when you need assistance. You may call the Group on Academics and Student Activities (GASA), 792-2063 and your comments/ideas on content and format are welcome. Disclaimer: The policies and procedures recited in the MUSC Student Handbook, MUSC Bulletin and the College of Medicine Handbook reflect the most current policies and procedures of the university and the College of Medicine, but are subject to amendment and change without notice.
